Where it All Started
Connected through a mutual friend, Krystyn and Nicholas clicked with ease. Nicholas was quickly taken by Krystyn’s fun, loving and upbeat spirit, while Krystyn was drawn by Nicholas’ kind and caring nature, and comforting presence. The travel consultant and small business owner bonded over many commonalities—one of which being a love for travel.
So, it would make sense that Nicholas proposed to Krystyn during a camping trip through Kenya and Tanzania for 2 weeks. He planned months in advance to put together a romantic proposal, and it was halfway during their trip he surprised Krystyn by their campfire in Serengeti—to which of course she happily agreed to spend the rest of her life with him.
Planning the Wedding
Since the pair got engaged while travelling, they felt a destination wedding would be perfect for them to celebrate their union. Krystyn also loved the idea of a destination wedding as she had very fond memories of when she was 13, watching her mom get married in a similar setting. Even more so, she loved the idea of having all the friends and family together for a weekend instead of just a day. Nicholas happily agreed to move forward with a destination wedding. And, because Wedding Vacations by Sunwing made the planning such a breeze, Krystyn was able to focus on all the important details for the big day.
After some looking around, they chose Riu Palace Costa Rica for its stunning shores, and luxurious yet family-friendly all inclusive amenities. There weren’t many decorations needed for the ceremony other than some chairs for the guests, since the breathtaking view of the ocean from the beach did all the work for setting the occasion.
On the day of the wedding, fun and laughter radiated throughout the whole occasion. Krystyn and her brides played around taking fun pictures while they were getting ready for the big occasion, donning their own pastel-coloured dresses to add to the sun-destination feel of the wedding. Meanwhile, Nicholas and his groomsmen looked suave dressing in their sharp, yet tropical attire—with suspenders custom ordered from Spain.
They couldn’t have asked for better weather that day. Once the moment came, Krystyn strode down the beach in her Muriel sweetheart, A-line gown with chiffon and beaded waist detail; a sparkling hairpiece with starfish complementing her classy side-bun, and glittering barefoot jewelry as she went sans shoes. As she was guided by her brother-in-law and her 2-year old nephew, Nicholas happily smiled and gazed back at her adoringly, waiting for her to meet him under the trellis.
The vows were exchanged and everyone cheered and celebrated as the newly-wedded couple toasted to themselves with some bubbly—everyone joining in shortly after. Most importantly, a beautiful picture of Krystyn’s late mother sat in the front row to witness the happy occasion. Then, they had the photographer capture some fun photos of them jumping around and celebrating on the beach.
The reception was held in the resort’s Papagayo (Steakhouse), where they shared their first dance to Meghan Trainor and John Legend’s “Love You Like I am Going to Lose You”, and then cut into their six-tiered wedding cake which also carried out the beach theme, covered with blue ribbon and fondant starfish. The reception hall echoed with laughter and joy that day.
Afterwards, the newlyweds went to Secrets Papagayo Resort and Spa in Costa Rica, where they enjoyed a romantic honeymoon with access to stunning beaches, delicious international cuisine, and fun evening entertainment at the nearby casino.
