Real Weddings: Alma & Gillian

It takes a special kind of person to dedicate their life to serving their country in the Armed Forces, which is exactly what makes the love between Gillian, a Canadian Forces Nurse, and Alma, a Healthcare Administration Officer with the Forces, so extraordinary.

The patriotic pair first entered each other’s lives while on a routine field training course with the military. Alma was mesmerized by Gill’s beauty, and admittedly couldn’t stop staring, while Gill was drawn to Alma’s magnetic personality, and after just one meeting, couldn’t get her off her mind.

Once the engagement was official – and with only weeks to spare before their big day – the couple decided to break from tradition, and flew to Chicago to go wedding dress shopping together.

“A lot of people were surprised we bought our dresses together, but whose opinion should matter more on your wedding day than your fiancée’s?,” they both agreed.

Mayan magic

The month of October would be a magical time for the couple, who chose to solidify their love at a breathtaking Iberostar hotel in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. With four of their closest friends in attendance, the couple walked barefoot down the beach, and were wed in a traditional Mayan ceremony, conducted by a shaman.

More meaningful moments were made as the couple hammed it up for the camera during their photo shoot with their photographer.

“We had so much fun taking the photos, and they turned out amazing!”

Once the photo session wrapped, it was time to celebrate. The blushing brides opted for cocktails and dinner at the resort, which provided the perfect finish to an absolutely unforgettable day.
