Real Wedding: Veronica & Nick

Where it all Started

When Veronica and Nick first met at a small bar in Etobicoke, it was love at first sight. Veronica was so smitten that she asked Nick out first – she didn’t want to take any chances! For their first date the couple went to an amazing sushi restaurant in Mississauga, where Nick made Veronica laugh so hard that she accidentally spit sushi all over a woman sitting behind her. After that, the two were inseparable and would stay up till all hours of the night talking about anything and everything.

The proposal was straight out of a fairy tale. After Veronica casually mentioned that she wanted to go away somewhere warm and beautiful together, Nick surprised her with a spontaneous romantic getaway to the Bahamas. After a luxurious and relaxing vacation, the couple decided to go for dinner at the One&Only Ocean Club on their last night. Nick had heard of the beautiful Cloister Ruins that were located near the club, so the couple set off to find them before dinner – but since they had never been there before, they got lost.

After circling around countless times and almost missing their dinner reservation, Nick got out of the car to ask for directions (being careful not to let the ring fall out of its hiding place in his lap) and they finally found their way to the ruins. As they were admiring the beautiful scenery, Veronica turned around to see Nick bent down on one knee holding a sparkling engagement ring. Of course she said ‘YES!’

Planning the Wedding

The couple knew right away that they wanted a destination wedding. They wanted something fairly stress-free where they didn’t have too many decisions to make and where they could spend an entire week with their closest family and friends instead of just one day. They both loved to travel, so a destination wedding was the perfect choice for them!

They decided upon Cancun, Mexico as their destination, having travelled there before and always being impressed with the quality of food, level of service, white sand beaches and vibrant nightlife. However Veronica wanted something a little different and the unique venues offered by Riu Palace Peninsula ticked all her boxes.

Day Details

On May 27th, 2017, Veronica and Nick became husband and wife in the gardens of Riu Palace Peninsula overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Veronica’s father acted as officiant, which added a special and personalized touch to their vows. After their picture-perfect ceremony everyone headed to the Crystal Box venue for the reception, where the space had been decorated in a colour scheme of champagne, blush pink and ivory. The space perfectly complemented their wedding’s romantic and glamorous style adorned with beautiful flowers, lush greenery and votive candles.

The new husband and wife danced to “Wonderwall” by Oasis;  the first song they slow danced to when they met. After their glamorous reception they headed back to the Bridal Suite where the resort staff had decorated their room with rose petals and set out chocolate covered strawberries, champagne and a beautiful hand-written note for the newlyweds – the perfect ending to a perfect day.
