DIY Destination Décor

One of  the biggest benefits of hosting your wedding in destination is how budget-friendly it can be. That being said, there are always more ways to stretch your budget, especially if you bring your décor from home and are willing to get a little creative. Gather your most artsy bridesmaids and groomsmen and read on for some of our favourite DIY décor ideas!

Wedding Ceremony Program Fans

What you’ll need:

  • Heavy cardstock
  • Glue gun
  • Large craft sticks
  • Ribbons

Wedding program fans are a destination wedding favourite. In addition to being a beautiful décor piece, they also keep your guests cool in the tropical heat. To create them, you’ll first need to design your stationary which can be done for free online. After you’ve created your design, print the programs on heavy card stock and use a glue gun to attach them to the end of a large craft stick. Finish them off with some pretty ribbon tied around the handle and voila!

Pretty Petal Place Cards

What you’ll need:

  • Artificial foliage
  • Scissors
  • Gold or silver Sharpie
  • Spray paint (optional)

Painted leaf place cards are a beautiful way to tie in your destination with your décor and are also a gorgeous keepsake for your guests to take home with them. To create these unique place cards, cut off some suitable sized leaves from artificial foliage at the stem. Then, write each guests name and table number on the leaf using a gold or silver pen (if you spray painted the leaves, make sure they have dried overnight before writing on them). The end result is a beautiful place card and wedding guest gift in one!

Shake it Like a Polaroid Guest Books

What you’ll need:

  • Blank notebook or scrapbook
  • Polaroid camera with extra film
  • Scotch tape
  • Fine-tip pen
  • Photo props (optional)

Your wedding guest book is something you and your partner will look back on years from now to remember your special day. Instead of a traditional guest book, we suggest adding a personalized touch with the use of Polaroids. All you need is a blank notebook, an instant Polaroid camera, tape and a pen so your guests can write a personalized note under their snaps. Want to get even more creative? Pack some fun props for your guests to pose with.

Light up the Night Centrepieces

What you’ll need:

  • Candles in a variety of sizes
  • Mason jars
  • Decorative chargers

Using these intricate candle centrepieces can reduce the cost of your florals, but still create the same impact. The flickering flames look especially romantic during a sunset or evening reception. To create your centrepieces, pick a variety of different candle sizes (candlesticks, tea lights, votive candles) and arrange them in the centre of your table. Get creative – the mismatched sizes and décor give your reception space a Boho feel.
