Our wedding consultants often receive questions from couples about how they can achieve their dream Pinterest-worthy wedding in destination. We sat down with Jessica Doutsas, Senior Destination Wedding Consultant, to chat with her about all things décor and customization for your big day. From items that you should bring from home to unique ways to personalize your resort package, read on for Jessica’s top tips.
Do you recommend that I visit my chosen resort before my wedding to get a better idea of how I can decorate my venues?
Some couples find it helpful to visit their resort before the big day, but it’s not required. If you choose to visit the resort, your destination wedding consultant can arrange a tour with the on-site wedding coordinators so you can see various ceremony and reception spaces to help you begin envisioning your décor.
However, other couples prefer to see the space for the first time during their destination wedding week. In this case, your Destination Wedding Consultant is especially valuable in sharing their expertise and suggesting décor that will suit the space, tie your theme together and reflect your personalities.
How can we customize our resort package to make our big day more personal?
When it comes to customizing your resort package, the sky is the limit. Most resorts offer a wide array of packages that range from simple intimate celebrations to grand elaborate events and everything in between.
Also, many resorts offer a wide selection of social packages and add-on experiences that couples can utilize to customize their special day. For instance, if your resort package includes a semi-private reception dinner at one of the restaurants but you’d prefer to have a private reception on the beach, your consultant can make arrangements upgrade your package.
Am I allowed to add or change the ceremony and reception décor?
We highly encourage couples to customize their décor to fit their personal style! While most packages include the basics, your destination wedding consultant can suggest ways to enhance these inclusions to fit your vision.
For instance, most resorts will offer a simple arch or gazebo for your wedding ceremony, but your consultant can help you get quotes for additional décor if you’d prefer to dress up your venue with floral arrangements, a unique hoop altar or a tiled aisle. For receptions, you can add a spacious dancefloor, opt for different setups with high top tables or glam up your table settings with stunning centrepieces. In addition, your destination wedding consultant can provide you with photos to help inspire your vision.
Are there any items from home you recommend couples bring for their big day?
In my opinion, the more you can bring from home, the better. Bringing unique pieces from home, such as candles, cake toppers, table numbers or even silk flowers, can really help to personalize your wedding day and help you save on décor costs.
The main item I always recommend bringing to destination are your printed materials including ceremony programs, welcome letters, itineraries, place cards and menus, which can all help incorporate your color scheme and tie your whole theme together.
