Many brides-to-be imagine themselves walking down the aisle in a beautiful dress resting perfectly on their radiant skin, with just a light dusting of makeup to polish an already exuberant glow. But sitting out in the hot sun to achieve this radiant glow is certainly not good for your delicate skin! To prevent looking like a lobster on your big day, airbrushing tanning provides that sought-after and polished wedding glow without the risks of harmful UV rays.
Nicole Hyatt, tanning expert and founder of Tan on the Run, put together some top tips for achieving the perfect tan for your big day. She counts numerous TV celebrities on her extensive client list and famously appeared on the hit show Dragons Den. The active ingredient in her tanning solution is a natural beet sugar called dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which reacts naturally with skin cells to create a radiant golden tan every time! The best part? Application only takes 15 minutes, and your results will last for 7-10 days.
Here are Nicole’s top five tanning tips on ensuring a perfect glow for your big day:
Tip #1: Trial Tan Run
To make sure you get the look you want (and don’t end up the wrong shade in your wedding photos), you should book a trial tan at least two weeks before your wedding, along with your makeup and hair trial to make sure everything goes well together! The last thing you want is a too-dark tan with bright pink cheeks and lips!
Tip #2: Do Your Research
The golden rule for a wedding day glow is that less is more and one shade does not fit all – so do your research before hitting the salon! Think about what coverage you want from your airbrush tan and how dark you want to go, and consider whether you care about tan lines that’ll likely be covered anyways!
Tip #3: Go With a Pro
You want your tan to look natural, and a spray tan booth just isn’t going to give you the right coverage or colour (orange nightmares anyone?). A certified airbrush tan artist will make sure your glow is so natural that no one will know it’s a spray tan!
Tip #4: Plan Accordingly
Avoid disoclouration, rashes, and red marks by getting your manicure, pedicure, and waxing done in advance. You should wait at least 24 hours after waxing before you book your spray tan.
Tip #5: First Timers
If you’re a virgin spray tanner, opt for the express tan and shower in as little as two hours. And don’t worry, your tan will not rub off on your dress!
